Our Achievements
Since November 2024, Citizens for Smart Growth has been advocating for residents by amplifying voices that are too often overlooked in city decision-making, ensuring our community is heard where it matters most. By uniting neighbors into a strong, cohesive voice, we advance smart economic development that protects our environment, preserves community character, and puts residents first. Here are some of our achievements.

North Peoria Airport
Our group formed out of our united efforts to stop the development of an airport in North Peoria. Through our advocacy efforts and months-long campaign of letter-writing and phone calls to state officials, we succeeded in preventing an airport polluting our city.
Moving Amkor
Through poor city planning, a toxic semi-conductor packaging plant was going to be placed next to a K-12 school within the master planned community of Vistancia. Through our efforts of protests, speaking at city council meetings, letter writing, press interviews, and door-to-door campaigning, we successfully achieved getting Amkor moved.

Increasing Awareness
Through protests, our Facebook group, community meetings, and door-to-door conversations, we have increased awareness of the planning and zoning decisions by the city that are negatively impacting our community. Many of our members even suggest that we had an influence in our mayor choosing to not run again.
Encouraging Other Communities
On October 8, 2025, leaders of our group spoke at The Dark Side of the Chip conference by Chips Communities United. We shared our success of getting Amkor moved and were able to encourage others around the country that citizens can unite to stand up for communities.
