Citizens for Smart Growth (Smart Growth) is a community-based, non-profit advocacy organization that focuses upon Smart Growth issues affecting Blaine County. We are working to ensure that public and private land use focuses on improving the well-being of Blaine County citizens and curbing sprawl. Smart Growth began as a loosely organized group of dedicated citizen volunteers committed to providing a reasoned alternative voice to county and city elected officials on land use and growth policy issues in Blaine County.

Since its formation in 1997, Smart Growth has enjoyed the support of over 650+ individuals in our community. In addition to its many volunteers, in 1998 Smart Growth employed its first professional staff member by retaining a contract attorney to represent its views to County Commissioners and City Council members, and Planning and Zoning Commission members. In 2000, Smart Growth added a part-time office manager to its staff and in September of 2001 an Executive Director was brought in to lead the organization.
